2030 Vision

Magic, solar power, and the UN's sustainable development goals.

Hey hero! Happy Tuesday. It’s April 4, 2030. Oops, I mean 2023. But we can all be a part of creating a greener 2030. Read on for more.

💡 Wellness tip: If you’ve been feeling anxious, worried, or down, try to make a conscious attempt to pay more attention to your thoughts. If a thought makes you feel bad, tell it to go away.

Lean toward the thoughts that make you feel better. This will not only raise your vibration (we’re getting metaphysical this Tuesday), it will also keep you feeling more happiness, appreciation, and all those positive feelings we love so much.

The UN’s new PSA:

In a new urgent report, the United Nations (UN) announced that “without rapid, deep, and sustained mitigation and accelerated adaptation actions, losses and damages will continue to increase, including projected adverse impacts in Africa, Central and South America, Asia and the Arctic, and will disproportionately affect the most vulnerable populations.”

It also shared that “If the annual CO2 emissions between 2020–2030 stayed, on average, at the same level as 2019, the resulting cumulative emissions would deplete more than a third of the remaining carbon budget for 2°C (67%). Estimates of future CO2 emissions from existing fossil fuel infrastructures without additional abatement42 already exceed the remaining carbon budget for limiting warming to 1.5°C (50%).” (Read the full report)

Here are the UN’s top 3 calls to action on their urgent climate to-do list:

1) Deploy wind and solar power, and a lot of it.

Switching to clean sources of energy, such as wind and solar, helps address not only climate change but also air pollution and health. Cheap electricity from renewable sources could provide 65 percent of the world’s total electricity supply by 2030. It could decarbonize 90 percent of the power sector by 2050, massively cutting carbon emissions and helping to mitigate climate change.

Help the UN create a green 2030 by introducing apartment-friendly solar power into your home.

2) Cut methane emissions from fossil-fuel production and waste.

While methane is emitted from many sectors, including oil and gas production and food waste, food production is responsible for a significant percentage of it. Vertical farming is designed to produce yields hundreds of times larger than traditional outdoor farming. Most importantly, they also use 70-95% less water since they can recapture and recycle water rather than waste it.

3) Protect natural ecosystems that trap carbon.

Natural ecosystems can trap and store carbon, and tropical rainforests are among the planet’s largest carbon sinks. The Amazon gives us up to 20% of the air we breathe, stores 25% of the world’s water, and stabilizes Earth’s climate. Protecting this natural resource and other ecosystems could be a low-cost, high-value way to slow climate change.
