Meet me in the multiverse

Parallel worlds, quantum mechanics, and the future of storytelling.

Hi heroes! It’s Tuesday, March 28. Today, I hope you can remember that you are the hero of your own story. With so many people, advertisers, and responsibilities vying for our attention, it’s important to remember that the attention we give to ourselves and our own inner world will fuel everything else. So, don’t forget to fill your cup. Otherwise, everything will become dry.

The mind-boggling world of quantum physics

From the multiverse to black holes, here are 4 ways the quantum world disrupts everything you know about reality.

1. The quantum world is lumpy

The quantum world is like shoes. Just as you’re forced to choose between pairs that come in predetermined sizes, the subatomic world is similar.

Albert Einstein proved that energy is quantized. Just as you can only buy shoes in multiples of half a size, so energy only comes in multiples of the same "quanta" — hence the name quantum physics.

2. Something can be both a wave and a particle

Just like light, sometimes matter acts like a particle, and sometimes, it acts like a wave. So, are light and matter made of waves or particles? The answer is both, sort of.

The most common picture, called the Copenhagen interpretation, says that the wave that we associate with matter is a wave of probability representing all the possible places where a particle might be the next time we go looking for it.

3. Objects can be in two places at once

Quantum objects exist in multiple states at once. An electron, for example, is both ‘here’ and ‘there’ simultaneously. It’s only once we do an experiment to find out where it is that it settles down into one or the other.

This idea is behind the famous Schrödinger’s cat thought experiment. A cat in a sealed box exists in both states until a measurement is made, the cat is simultaneously alive and dead until we look.

4. It may lead us toward a multiverse

Science fiction loves the idea of a parallel universe, and the thought that we might be living just one of an infinite number of possible lives. Recent scientific theory explores, and in some cases supports, the case for universes outside, parallel to, or distant from but mirroring our own. Multiverses and parallel worlds are often argued in the context of other major scientific concepts like quantum mechanics.

Welcome to the Future of Storytelling

FoST (the Future of Storytelling, Explorers Club)

I’m so happy to announce that I have been awarded a spot in the revolutionary Future of Storytelling (FoST) Explorers Club!

This means that I will be embarking on trips around the world to experience the bleeding edge of immersive storytelling. Our travels will kick off in April with a trip to London, an old historical city where the future is brewing underground.

In London, we will visit the most sought-after immersive experiences, from ABBA Voyage to Alice’s Adventures Underground. And through the power of content, I will be bringing you on the journey every step of the way.

My Green 2030

Introducing “My Green 2030” Snapchat lens. An augmented reality filter designed to inspire you to imagine a sustainable future.

I created this filter in response to the UN’s new report, which instates an urgent new slew of climate goals for the world to reach this decade.

Read the report and tell me what your green 2030 looks like by clicking the button below! Just scan the Snap code with your Snapchat App and answer the prompt. The only limit is your imagination.
