As the year comes to a close, I have to say thank you for being a part of this journey with me. By opening these weekly musings, you are a part of a growing effort to reimagine the world as it could be, one story at a time.
In 2022, many of my wildest dreams became lived realities. I traveled to cities across the country to showcase my short film, Afro Algorithms. I flaunted my finest fashion on red carpets. I signed life-changing partnerships with Snapchat and have even more exciting partnerships in the pipeline for 2023.
If you hear a weird noise, it's because I'm doing an evil laugh from the other side of the screen just thinking about the magic I have in store for you in 2023. I could go into a long list of what I have in the works, but I'd rather just show you. So please, please be a part of the revolution that will unfold in the year ahead. Trust me, it's going to be a wild ride. š
Future or Fantasy?
Imagine a city the size of Manhattan, but packed inside one skinny line held together by mirrored walls. It might be a little tricky to envision, but Saudi Arabia promises to have it ready for you to visit by 2030.
The proposed metropolis is powered by clean energy and equipped with artificial intelligence to keep things running. Oh ā and don't forget the robot maids, flying taxis, and giant artificial moon that add the finishing touches to the promised tech paradise.
"The designs ... will challenge the traditional flat, horizontal cities and create a model for nature preservation and enhanced human livability. The Line will tackle the challenges facing humanity in urban life today and will shine a light on alternative ways to live," says the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, bin Salman.
Meet Your New AI Boss
Do you think it would be any easier to take orders, request vacation days, or report your overtime to your boss if it were an artificial intelligence? š¤
Chinese tech firm NetDragon Websoft announced that its AI-powered humanoid robot "Ms. Tang Yu" is its new Chief Executive Officer.
As CEO, the robot boss will be responsible for all executive duties and manage the company's organizational systems, talent, and human resources. The firm hopes it will result in a healthy working environment for NetDragon's employees.
"We believe AI is the future of corporate management, and our appointment of Ms. Tang Yu represents our commitment to truly embrace the use of AI to transform the way we operate our business, and ultimately drive our future strategic growth."
Movies that Radically Imagined in 2022
Stories have the power to bring us to new dimensions and enable us to see the world in different ways. The following movies and TV shows pushed the limits of what is possible, and in doing so, became some of my favorites of the year.
After Yang, a near-future sci-fi story about family bonds being stretched when their beloved AI companion malfunctions.
The Future of, an animated docuseries outlining the future of everything from gaming to cheeseburgers.
We Met in Virtual Reality, filmed entirely inside virtual reality, this documentary tells real stories of how people found love, belonging, and even themselves inside virtual worlds.
Everything Everywhere All at Once shows time travel in a light you've never seen before. The rest can be described in one potent word: Multiverse.
Glass Onion, this humorous mystery pokes fun at the future of clean energy and brilliantly plays with perspective in a way that made it one of my favorite movies of the year.
As you dream up what 2023 will mean for you, please remember that you have more power than you know, are worthy of the life of your greatest desires, and bring a unique flavor of magic that the world so desperately needs.
