The Future is Africa

Climate refugees, 2050 goals, and why Africa has main character energy.

Happy Tuesday Heroes! It's April 11th. Hope your week is off to a great start. I'm excited to share that I'll be heading to London tomorrow for a business trip. The business of storytelling, that is.

While it's hard to leave the coziness of my new home, I'm looking forward to the adventure and can't wait to share my experiences with all of you. Stay tuned for updates and insights from across the pond!

How Africa is a Main Character on the Climate Stage

Did you know that Africa is a key player on the climate stage? According to a recent UN report, by 2050, climate change could force over 2 billion people to migrate within their own countries - with a whopping 86 million of them in sub-Saharan Africa. Not cool, Mother Nature, not cool.

Ironically, a larger percentage of people in Africa walk and cycle than the global average. That's some serious pedal power! However, the UN’s Executive Summary on Walking and Cycling states that Africa is one of the least safe places for these modes of transportation, with 261 pedestrians and 18 cyclists killed there each day.

The UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognizes the importance of transport in achieving the future we want. Let's be a part of the change by pushing for sustainable and safe transport options for all. In the meantime, stay green, and keep on walking (and cycling)! 🚲
